Why I should not use an automatical translation software?
You can buy a software of this kind; however the result text will be only a substitution of words: like as using a dictionary and placing the first meaning you find in the target text.
An example? Try to translate the same document from English to Italian, then from Italian to Dutch and finally again into English.
The original English text will be very different to the final English Text, even if you use other language combinations for this experiment.
Instead a human translator is able to understand the meaning and the scope of that text and, thanks to his/her experience, will choose the correct terms, grammar and style.
Do I need a translator or interpreter?
Translators work with documents, Interpreters work with the spoken word. Translators usually work remotely using specialised software such as word processors and web design tools whereas interpreters work on-site along side you and your clients. Translating and interpreting are two very different skills and, although some people offer both services, it is important not to confuse the two when commissioning work.
Translators and interpreters are usually much better at translating into their mother tongue than they are at translating from their mother tongue into a foreign language. Beware of anyone who tries to convince you otherwise.
